‘Aesthetic Surgery, the Jews, and the Invention of Beauty’  by Sander Gilman

Sander L. Gilman is distinguished professor of the Liberal Arts and Sciences and professor of Psychiatry at Emory University. He has written more than eighty books (among which a classical study of Jewish self-hatred) and is a renowned researcher of the cultural meaning of the body. In this lecture, he will discuss the origins of aesthetic surgery in 19th century Jewish History.

The lecture will be held at the Amsterdam “De Balie”, at the Kleine-Gartmanplantsoen 10 (near the Leidseplein) and will start at 20:15. Tickets can be bought by sending an email to mbii@jhm.nl, by filling out the webform or by phoning 020-5310325. The price of single tickets is Euro 10. There is a discount for the whole series (four lectures): Euro 30 instead of Euro 40.
